Srinagar, Jan 05 (KNO): Urging Kashmiri youth to stay away from drugs, six-time international gold medalist Fardeem Hussain on Monday asked the generation-next to focus on their goals while pursuing sports and other constructive activities.
Fardeem made the appeal following his victories at the 2024–2025 World Powerlifting Championships, where he won three gold medals last year and repeated the feat this year, including consecutive wins in Thailand.
Fardeem as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), highlighted the growth of powerlifting competitions in the Valley over the past year, noting an increase in local and national events.
He said his journey from district champion to world champion could serve as an example for youth and stressed that sports can be an alternative to drug use.
Fardeem also acknowledged the support of his coach Vishal Ahmed Khan, his family, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which has been involved in drug-prevention programs.
